The Downside of Running [the backside downside]
Posted by jenmarie under: Run; Uncategorized.
So since begging my training again and putting on some (please tell me muscle) weight, I noticed this morning that I’m fitting into all of my old jeans from last fall when I was training for the Marine Corps.
Needless to say, mixed feelings come with this part of the training results. First off, its difficult to convince yourself that its a good thing (unless you were trying to get bigger in the first place) and secondly, apart from making a general declaration, sending a mass-email or wearing a T-shirt that says “hey, I’m in training” (better yet, why not have it etched onto your jeans?) you will have a difficult time convincing the general public that the extra “baggage” is really a result of some intense workouts and a “good” jump in calorie intake.
Of course, I know the kinds of people who go around saying, “Oh, me? I just sort of slim out all over when I run…” or the emaciated, haggard forms of committed I’m-gonna-WIN-the-marathon types… but then there are the average people like yours truly, who, at 117 pounds and 5 foot 5 inches, are nowhere near overweight, but pack on the muscle in the least welcome areas when training begins.
So with a sigh and a wince, I’m saying hello to all of my size 6-8 jeans and packing away my size 2s and 4s until my other tibia decides to give out and I take a training break again.
At least it’s sort of like having a new wardrobe…
